William Collins scoops 'practical manifesto' for humanity
William Collins has scooped a "practical manifesto to equip humanity for a changing global landscape" from former diplomat Tom Fletcher.

Arabella Pike, publishing director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada to Ten Survival Skills for a World in Flux from Charlie Brotherstone of Brotherstone Creative Management. It will publish on 3rd February 2022.

The publisher said: "Ten Survival Skills for a World in Flux assesses the challenges ahead for humanity and sets out how we can respond – both collectively and as individuals. Using his background in global diplomacy, education, business, activism and international relations, Tom Fletcher considers why, what and how we should learn in the future, how we can use technology without thinking like computers, how we become good ancestors, how to find purpose and allies, how to take back control of our time and how we find the courage to put values at the heart of politics, society and innovation."

Fletcher is a former UK ambassador to Lebanon and foreign policy adviser to three prime ministers, as well as visiting professor of New York University, chair of the International Board of the UK’s Creative Industries Federation, and founder of the Foundation for Opportunity. He is now the principal of Hertford College at Oxford University

Pike said: "This is the book we need to navigate the future. Tom is a pioneer in the reform of education and the radical ideas he’s put into practice through his work at NYU and his Foundation for Opportunity are distilled in this important and practical guide."

Fletcher added: "I’m thrilled to be working with Arabella and the team at William Collins once again. This book is the product of decades of debates and experiences, and the more recent experience of being a parent. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I hope that it can be helpful to anyone feeling that the world is unpredictable and fragile."
